Christopher Seymore is a hillbilly poet from upstate South Carolina making down-home honky-tonk music in Houston, TX. Steeped in outlaw tradition and rooted in Appalachian old time; Seymore brings a genuine authenticity that’s undeniable. Seymore and his band, The Western Cosplay, have been touring nationally for the last 2 years and can be found playing dancehall dusters and saloon tunes in roadside dives, dodgey juke joints, and now, The Grand!
With the deceptively simple grace of Billy Joe Shaver, pied-piper charisma of Jerry Jeff Walker, and mournful beauty of Gary Stewart, Seymore has emerged as a singular frontman and songwriter capable of leading not just a singalong, but a movement.
At home in Houston, Seymore’s crowds have expanded into a bona fide scene. Horni Tonk Tuesday, the live music series dreamed up by Seymore and other talented Houston players, has lured two-steppers and juke joint revelers out on school nights for three years now. “I think that’s a lot of what’s missing from music: It’s no longer seen as part of a community,” Seymore says. “People were making music on their front porch about their day and the news long before making that music ever earned them a paycheck.”
While the old-school shuffles, camaraderie, and vintage urban-cowboy aura have certainly helped fuel the buzz surrounding Seymore, it’s his songwriting – full of clever lines and inescapable hooks, wry perspective, and gut-punches– that ensures his songs have real staying power.
